We made it home! Our trip actually went very well. We spent exactly 24 hours traveling from the time our bus departed the White Swann Hotel in Guangzhou to the time that our plane arrived at the Phoenix airport. We had 3 legs to our trip; Guangzhou-Tokyo, Tokyo-San Francisco, San Fran-Phoenix. Georgea handled the long day of travel and 3 flights amazingly well. She was such a trooper. She was not into sleeping, we think she slept 3 or 3.5 hours in total. However, she was in good spirits the entire trip which we realize is a huge gift. By the time we reached Phoenix she was a bit fussy, but so were James & I after being up for the better part of 24 hours!
San Francisco was our port of entry into the US, and Georgea officially became an American citizen when we passed through customs and they stamped her passport visa. This was an emotional moment for us...finally, our baby girl is here with us at HOME and officially a US citizen. It's still hard to believe. San Francisco is a special city for us, having lived in the bay area for several years. So, we loved that this is where our girl had her big moment. This is a memory we will treasure.
Georgea was up and down (not sleeping through like she normally does) quite a bit last night, her first night at home. I spent the night in her room with her, getting up about every hour to hold her hand through the crib rungs because she would wake crying. Finally I gave it up at around 3am and put her on my chest, rocking her to sleep in our (uber comfy) gliding nursery chair. She dozed off right away once I picked her up and the two of us enjoyed 2 good hours of snuggly sleep. She was awake at 5:00 ready for a bottle and a few bites of breakfast. James & I took Georgea and Vida for a short walk which both girls seemed to enjoy.
Vida and Georgea are doing well so far. Vida is not quite sure what to think of Georgea, but she is being really sweet and has even offered her a few kisses. Georgea wasn't sure of Vida at all the first few moments (maybe the first dog she's ever seen?). But that changed in a flash & within an hour she was smiling & giggling at Vida. She clearly likes her and finds her quite entertaining. Shew, big relief!
I'll be updating the blog with photos of the past few days as soon as possible. Just wanted to let everyone know we are home safe and sound and so very happy to be here!
