In one week we'll be on the plane in AZ, heading to San Fran, Tokyo and finally Beijing! We'll arrive in Beijing on Friday & meet Georgea on Monday.....counting down & so excited!
Both Japan & China are doing quarantine inspections due to the H1N1 virus. Here's the message that is posted on "All Nippon Airways" website:
To prevent the spread of Influenza A (H1N1), Quarantine inspection has been conducted by the local authorities at each airport.
At Narita airport, all passengers arriving from the U.S. (excluding Honolulu) are subject to Quarantine inspection conducted by the Japanese Authorities through Questionnaire and Thermal scanners.
Some overseas airports may also undertake Quarantine inspection in the aircraft upon arrival in line with the local authorities' instructions.
Please be advised that disembarkation may require additional time to complete the inspection. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Yikes! This makes me nervous. The last thing we need is to be quarantined bc someone has a fever. And, what is "thermal scanning?!" In any case I'm praying and trusting that we'll have smooth sailing and no delays in getting to our baby girl! We're asking for prayer for this and are so grateful for your support.

Prayers will continue for you guys! Thermal scanning is just what it sounds like - you'll walk past (maybe through) a scanner (very similar to the metal detector you'll already be familiar with) that will actually 'take your temp' and compare that with others getting off with you (this factors in the ambient temp etc) and the 'standard norm' for fever etc. If you are 'hot' they'll flag you and maybe even have a doctor examine you real quick. It's nothing to worry about and I wouldn't expect it to slow you down too much unless you have a fever!
So excited for you guys - we are now PA and hope to travel again in December!
hugs - aus and co.
